School teaches manual muscle testing one way. But there is SOOOO much more to doing it right than just breaking a patient’s position. In this video, I share with you the keys to success with MMT and how to get the most out of each test.
Keys to remember when manual muscle testing:
🗝 Always keep eye contact with your patient
🗝 Test a muscle in it’s shortened position for strength/weakness
🗝 Test in a lengthened position when looking for tendinopathy
🗝 Use the flat of your palm rather than the knife edge to apply pressure
🗝 Use your body to test, not your arm
🗝 Always ask “WHAT do you feel?” not “How do you feel?”
🗝 Use your other hand to palpate the joint you are testing for crepitus
